Cover Reveal for A HEART MADE OF TISSUE PAPER

This is the big COVER REVEAL for a book that has been six years in the making. In the spring of 2018, I penned a simple poem that echoed a heartbroken moment in my life. It made me think about how fragile and yet at the same time how resilient the human heart is. That poem sparked the idea of creating a compilation of poetry based on emotional experiences every human heart endures in a lifetime. The following short poem was the beginning of this book:

It seems
my heart is
made of tissue paper;
I wish
the world would
handle it more delicately.

—Richelle E. Goodrich © 2018

From 2018 to 2023, as trials and triumphs occurred in my life, I penned a variety of verses to add to the book. A few deeply-personal poems were a creative and healing outlet for me, a way to put my emotions as well as a portion of my story into writing. Other verses were written purely for lighthearted fun. Each onewhether simple or complex, lighthearted or severehas relatable lines that every heart in the world can appreciate.

About the cover... I tried a variety of possible cover ideas before settling on the final artwork. I even took photographs of pink tissue paper folded into the shape of a puffy heart! But nothing spoke to me (so to say) until a painting on the wall caught my eye. It hangs in a sunny room of our house where my husband keeps his keyboard. When we were dating, I painted that modest acrylic picture of him and me, our features basically undefined. He loves that painting because I made it for him. I love it because it was my attempt at expressing tender feelings for him in a simple work of art. Seeing it on the wall reminded me that I have dedicated this book to my wonderful husband. How perfectly appropriate to incorporate aspects of our cherished painting into the book.

So, I took the woman from the painting and placed a big, delicate heart in her arms. The background was created as an abstract marriage of a bright sun cutting through a dark storm. The final artwork pleases me. So, with no further delays, here is the cover reveal for my latest book. . .

Cover Reveal for The Tarishe Curse

This Halloween, look forward to werewolves, witches, warlocks, and other Hallows Eve creatures in my new book, The Tarishe Curse. This thrilling tale is set to be released on October 31st, 2022 only on Amazon.com. Learn about the Tarishe curse from the Queen of Werefolk's point of view. Follow her as she desperately seeks any means to undo the curse contrived by an old, malevolent witch. But before you get your hands on the book, be one of the first to enjoy this cover reveal!

Did you know that the beginning chapter in The Tarishe Curse was originally written in 2012 as a short story? I wrote it for my friend, Cathie (Duvall) Hunt, who possesses a seriously spooky love for Halloween. I thought it would be fun to incorporate some Hallows Eve creatures into a haunting story as a treat for her. Fact: the first chapter of The Tarishe Curse is still that original short story in its completion. When Cathie asked me "What happens next?" I was stunned at first. No additional storyline existed in my mind; it wasn't meant to be a longer tale. But after some thought, I determined to write a new chapter every Halloween and post it online for readers to enjoy. Over the next few years posting annual chapters, the original eventually developed into something substantial. And now, eleven years later on this very Halloween 2022, The Tarishe Curse comes to an end in the form of a 300+ pages book available in paperback, hardcover, and e-book for kindle.

Now... what about the cover? Glad you asked.

A little about the creation of this cover: Yes, I do my own artwork, and though I am certainly not a professional artist, I enjoy creating my book covers. As far as I'm concerned, writing books trumps cover art, but I do keep full control over the entire book this way. For The Tarishe Curse cover, I wanted specific details to be included. First and foremost, a full Tarishe moon. This red moon is a bewitching natural phenomenon in my fictional world mentioned early on in the book. Surrounding the village of Tarishe is a forest of thin aspen trees; this I also wanted on the cover, including an aura of dreary darkness. I think I nailed the ambiance.

For me, it didn't seem quite enough to have atmosphere only depicted on the cover, though it did an effective job of setting the mood for my book. But it felt... empty. What I wanted was to introduce the main character here with her ominous silver sword. I kept her features hidden on purpose, leaving her face as mysterious as her conflicting identity. Yes, you'll have to read the book to understand that reference.

After adding her as a focus under the light of the Tarishe moon, I was pleased. So, without further delay... here is the final cover of The Tarishe Curse. Look for it on Amazon.com

Cover Reveal for the FINAL BOOK in the Harrowbethian Saga

had an itch to do things differently with this final book in the Harrowbethian Saga and decided to work backwards by completing the cover before editing the story. I know, I know, it means you still have to wait a few months before the actual book is released, but heynow you have a visual to help your imagination run wild guessing how Queen Eena's adventures will come to an end! That's half the fun about reading a series, isn't it?

Creating this cover was somewhat bittersweet since all the while I knew it was the last one I would illustrate for my very first HUGE writing accomplishment. Who ever thought I would actually write an entire original saga? Not me! However, now that I've scaled that mountain, I'm psyched to try again.

After weeks of contemplating the crazy events that take place in this culminating book, I eventually envisioned the cover I wanted. I chose to showcase Queen Eena elegantly dressed alongside her immortal watch dog, the impish Edgarmetheus. Both characters are dynamic individuals who play vital roles in this book. The background scene is a representation of a new planet you have yet to discover.

I'm sorry that I can't give a release date for book six entitled, Eena, The Companionship of the Dragon's Soul, but it will be worth the wait! I can tell you that the paperback copy of book fiveEena the Tempter's Snarecontains the very first chapter of book six. You might want to check it out!

NOW...

Without further ado...

Cover Reveal! Eena, The Tempter's Snare

One of my favorite things about completing a book is the cover reveal. I'm an extremely visual person, hence my love for art and performance. To sell me on a book, you simply have to attract my eye with the cover.

Today I am posting my newest cover for my next book in the Harrowbethian Saga—Eena, The Tempter's Snare. The cover shows Kira the Mishmorat and her Harrowbethian friend, the young Queen Eena, inside a secret cave that exists beyond the borders of Harrowbeth. This scene is from book V in the Harrowbethian Saga. It is scheduled to be released next month on April 26th, 2018.

Affected by a compassionate heart, she tries to console one man who mourns for a lost love while endeavoring to assure another she does indeed plan to marry him... someday. But emotions are sensitive and doubts strong, especially when provoked by the lying tongue of an immortal scoundrel.

All the while, the young queen continues to search for a way to defeat two devious, indestructible sisters who seem capable of manipulating outcomes regardless of Eena's attempts to thwart them. The closer she gets to fulfilling the final demands of these witches, the more it appears only one way exists to save herself and her world—by agreeing to join the enemy. But would that make her a hero or the ultimate traitor?

Drawing a Dragon

Art is a slow but rewarding process.
Since completing the writing, rewriting, editing, and revising of my soon-to-be-released book, Slaying Dragons, I have spent most of my free time sketching out a cover for the book. Anytime I put the sharpened tip of a pencil to a blank page I feel a degree of anxiety, afraid that the picture I envision will fail to appear on the paper. And honestly, the end product is never exactly what I imagined. However, it never fails to amaze me how stroke-by-stroke my artwork comes to life. I thought it would be fun to share one character with you that will be on the front cover of Slaying Dragons. I hope you are looking forward to the final product as much as I am!

First, I sketch out the dragon in pencil.
Lots of erasing and penciling and erasing takes place at this point.

Next, I use permanent black ink and outline what was sketched in pencil. I take great care with every stroke because there is no erasing black ink! Then the image is scanned into the computer where I can use an app to add color.

Amazing what a little color, shading, and highlighting can do... and a bit of fire in the eyes.

I did some tweaking here and there before adding wings. And voila! Here is the dragon that will appear on the cover of Slaying Dragons.
What do you think?
